10.30.10 POTD

10.30.10 POTD, originally uploaded by Sarah (SarahDanyelle).

I was hired to shoot a birthday party and this is the birthday girl E. This was so much fun and was great practice for the wedding reception I'll be shooting in December (there are bounce houses at receptions, right?) This picture was shot through the ropes that you see behind her. My lens is bigger than the holes so I think I did a pretty good job of blurring them into disappearing!

10.29.10 POTD and Friday Photo Walk

I went to White Rock Lake again this week for my photo walk. I went to a different section that last time.  I was trying to get a good shot of the spillway, but that really didn't happen.
I just love these little berries any time I see them.  I think they have been the photo of the day five or six times.

Just screwing around with the sprinkler.

Remember a few weeks aog I was on the other side of the water plant.

I liked that this plant's shadow looks like a spider.

Forbidden......

This is the spillway that I wanted to get a good shot of but they have it blocked where you can't get a head on shot.

Just a little rust on the bridge.

I loved the light on these leaves! It was just perfect. And I didn't trespass to get the picture although I came very close, but I won't tell if you won't.

This guy was just so stinking cute. I had a bunch of him eating but the lighting was terrible so I had to go with this one as he decided he'd had enough of me.

For those of you who know me on Facebook you'll know that I complained about being sick and having to make dinner. Well, here it is - my completely from scratch chicken noodle soup. It's probably the best thing I make!

At home sick in bed. This was the only picture I took all day and it was with my phone. The good thing about being home sick is that I got to watch the enitre first season of Eureka on Netflix. I started watching around season three so it was nice to know where some of the plot line came from.

A gorgeous storm was brewing just to the east of us. First the clouds were this really pretty fluffly white and then they were a really ugly grey with lightning. It's really cool to watch storms when they aren't heading your way!

10.22.10 POTD & Friday Photo Walk

I ventured again over to White Rock Lake in Dallas, but the really bad thing about going here is that my time is severely limited (like only twenty minutes out of the car, all the rest is eaten up by travel time).  There is so much more I want to explore but figure I'll have to take several Friday's to cover everything.  It was very overcast today and I thought that I would possibly rain - lucky for the Rangers it didn't and they were able to win some baseball game. : )

This week I stopped at the Bath House Cultural House which is located right on the shores of White Rock Lake.  I have to be honest, I wasn't heading here, but I missed my turn and was about to make a u-turn when I saw the sign and thought why not.   I think these little telescopes often look like people and I can usually tell what sex they are. This one is a girl and I named her Anna.  She is very lonely all by herself.
The problem with posting my POTD first in this post is that it's never the first picture that I take so it always seems out of place to me... Anyway, this is in the little garden area that they have directly in front of the Bath House.  They had tons of flowers in bloom.

Every time I see these things I think that I should find out what this is and plant one at our house.  I never do and probably never will.

Part of the Bath House.  This is my very own preset that I spent hours upon hours making a few weeks ago and now I think I go a tad over board and use it a lot.  Wanna know what I named it? Ryan's Bridal BW. I'm creative. Guess what I made it for... lol.

The other view of Anna.  I really wish there wouldn't have been a large blue trash can on the right hand side.  I would have loved this picture more if I could have seen the other side of the wall.

A close-up of the numbers on Anna. : )

So this is what you see when you look through the telescope. It's a bird "show."  They put all these things in the water for the birds to stand on. I guess that was kind of cool. If it wouldn't have been so cloudy I could've gotten a really good one of a bird with Dallas in the background...oh well.

As it was with the crappy lens I had with me, this was all I got. There was a guy beside me with a 400 mm f2.8 lens.  Now some of you know what that is, for the rest of you - it's an $8,000 lens. Yeah, my kit lens looked pretty darn awful, but he was at least nice to me. : )

The sun peeked out for just a minute.

I really like this tree.  Going to have to remember this guy when the sky is blue.

And then there is this. I had such high hopes for this picture, that it would be amazing. Instead it barely showable. : (  Maybe next time!!

10.21.10 POTD

Ahhhhh, back home. I know I am close when I see this sight. Soon this field will be a shopping center (soon is a relative term, I think the year 2015 is what I have heard) so I try to enjoy it's beauty every time I pass it!

We pretty much don't get a fall in Dallas, but I'd say the Houston people get even less of a fall than us. This was the only tree with any color on it within the Houston city limits or so it seemed. I basically saw this tree from my hotel room, walked until I found it and turned back around and went back in for the night.

10.19.10 POTD

10.19.10 POTD, originally uploaded by Sarah (SarahDanyelle).

All I wanted was a little piece and quiet. After I took this shot I ended up requesting to move rooms because my "neighbors" had fought for a few hours the night before over $30. If you are stressing that much about $30, should you really be staying at a hotel? I figured it was easier for me to move than throw a fit about making them move!

My most favorite thing about staying in a hotel - ice. I love, love, love ice. And they just give it away for free. Generally the first thing I do upon check in is send the Mr for some ice, but this time had to go one my own you know since he's at home. I probably should have closed the curtain, but oh well!

When you haven't taken a picture all day sometimes you just rrun outside and shoot the first thing you see. This is the only weed in the backyard at the moment. Not sure how that happened, but I'll take it.

So I am in Houston without my typical photo editing laptop and I had originally decided that I would not edit any pictures using this laptop because as some of you know and the rest I am telling now, anything I edit on this machine I either have to reedit on my real laptop or export with the side car thing and yuck. Well, I am kind of bored so I decided to just throw caution to the wind and edit anyway. I usually don't do a square crop. I think it won't look as nice in my year end book, but this guy needed it. I pikced him up on Saturday while out Christmas shopping. He's one of the only things I bought for myself!

10.15.10 POTD & Friday Photo Walk

See, for those following along this evening, I told you I'd basically catch up! Yea, makes me very happy!  Yesterday on my Friday Photo Walk I went to Flag Pole Hill in Dallas. Flag Pole Hill is said to be haunted so if you are ever in the area at night you should check it out.  But don't drive your car because apparently the ghosts like to throw rocks. Or so I understand.  I will warn you their are a "few" flag pictures.
See, I couldn't go and not make this my photo of the day. I wish that I would have zoomed out ever so slightly to catch the end of the flag, but honestly there was a big gust right before I snapped.  It wasn't out quite that far.  I liked the picture enough to keep it my POTD.
A view of the actual hill.  It was quite lovely and is a pretty large park.

This one screamed moody to me.

I tried to get the grass in focus and the flag not in focus, but that wasn't really working for me.  I still like this one anyway.  See I told you lots of flags.  Actually one flag with lots of shots.  I actually ended up with a hundred. Thank goodness for the survey view in lightroom!

I really liked the lighting ob this guy.

Sometimes I don't know why something catches my eye.  This one did because of the colors of the grass.

Ghost hand prints. For real. Ghosts have blue hands.

This was my runner up POTD.  But I figured it is Flag Pole Hill so the winner should be flag shot.

A shot of the entry. Really wish I could have gotten a better one!

Welcome to ASKO. Three days of ASKO training for me. I always hate that I am never brave enough to take better pictures during the many training sessions I have to go to. Want to know anything about their laundry or dishwashers? Go ahead, ask me anything. I am super smart!

10.14.10 POTD

Ditz and I may be five year olds. We saw these cute bugs and each had to get one. This one is mine and his name is Alpha. When I first got him out of the bix all he did was walk in circles which is what our dog Chase does so it was kind of funny. Ditz fixed him and now he walks just fine! (Well except in this picture his leg is caught in our patio, but other than that he walks fine.)

I don't know what these yellow things are but they are every where right now. I found this field in my neighborhood. I was pretty lucky that I had such a pretty blue sky as a backdrop!

When we were looking for our first house we wandered into the Harmon Ranch neighborhood. It was out of our price range at the time, but we wanted to look anyway. We fell in love with one of the houses and said that our next house would be similar to one of these. Lucky for us we didn't buy in this neighborhood. Of all the neighborhoods around us it was the hardest hit by the housing bust. There are so many unfinished houses it's scary. And as you can see no one is keeping up with the entry. Hence the lovely sunflowers.

I had such high hopes for 10.10.10. I was going to find things to photograph in groups of ten. It was going to be awesome. And then the day got away from us. We had to run up to Ditz's moms and drop of the suitcases we borrowed for our trip and I snapped this photo of the horses across the street. So much for 10.10.10. I guess there is always 11.11.11

10.09.10 POTD

This was so sad. We drove the half hour up to the outlet mall near the Oklahoma border. Last time we'd both been there were tons of shops and lots to do. This time there were maybe ten stores that were open. The majority of them sat empty like this. Chained up. I feel bad because it's such a lovely outlet mall that was packed back in it's hay day.

10.08.10 POTD & Friday Photo Walk

It seems like forever since I have posted! I have many excuses, but the number one excuse is time.  I have just been so busy since returning from vacation.  Working late nights means very little time to do what I truly love to do.  Doesn't mean that I haven't been taking the pictures, it just means that I have had no time to do anything with them. So my goal this evening is get a few days worth posted....so be forewarned!

This is my photo of the day taken at the Freedman's Cemetery Memorial Park.  This was a freed man's cemetery beginning in the early 1800's through early 1930.  After the city of Dallas began planing the Central Expressway in the early 1930's they removed all the head stones and laid the road on top of the graves. In1965, the city agreed to put up the memorial, but it wasn't actually funded and built until 1990.  See all the cool things that you learn from my photo walks.

This is the lady (the man was above) I had a really hard time choosing the man vs the woman for the POTD, but at the end of the day the sun flare one.  I am so predictable.
 Here he is in color.
One of the statues in the middle.

The fence.  I just really liked it.

And orange. It's my favorite color ever so when I saw these guys I knew I had to snap away!

Directly next to the Freedman's Cemetery Memorial was another cemetery which I peeked my head in and took a few shots.  They had tons of flags, which I think are really nifty.

And last but not least is this tree.  You may be wondering why it's cropped weird (or maybe you weren't). I had to get rid of a light fixture on the right that totally detracted! Why can't people think of photographers when they are putting up light poles? : )
