09.22.10 POTD

09.22.10 POTD, originally uploaded by Sarah (SarahDanyelle).

So here's one of the things that I love about the photo of the day project - I have lots of cool pictures of random things in my house. Things I am pretty sure wouldn't be photographed if not for the POTD project. Take this for example, this is exactly how these two things sit in my bookshelf on any given day. The happy new year head band thing is from our first New Year's Eve when we'd only been dating two weeks. The pottery piece is the one thing we brought back from our honeymoon. How funny that they "live" together!

Look a weed. I got it from the neighbor's yard I promise. It was getting kind of late and I didn't have a photo yet so I took my brand new winter coat outside to take it's picture (better lighting). I snapped a few shots and as I was walking in I saw this in the neighbors yard (wink) and held it up towards the sun. And viola. It beat the jacket picture!

Timer: A Movie Review

It's been awhile since I've posted something not photography related on my blog, so I thought tonight I would take a few minutes to recommend a movie, one that I am pretty sure that no one here has ever heard about.  It's called Timer and is an indie flick.  (If you are wondering how we ended up watching this on a Saturday night it's because the Roku told us we'd love it and we always listen to the Roku.)

The movie's tagline: If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know?

I think Ditz wanted to watch it because accordning to Netflix it's a sci-fi movie, but really I think it's a plain-old fashioned love story or lack there of. So, it's really cool they get these little timers on their arm and as long as their soul-mate also has a timer (how's that for genious marketing) you have a countdown to the day you will meet your soul mate. No more worrying if he's the one!  The problem for the two "heroines" of the movie is that one of their clocks is blank (meaning no soul mate has a timer) and the other one is flashing 5000+ days.   Since the timer came out, no one has a first love anymore, you just spend your days looking for your soul mate. But Oona (an awful name) decides that she will hook up with a guy whose counter is closing in on zero and then go back to searching for her soul mate.  But, wouldn't you know it? She falls in love. But is he her soul mate?  I won't give that away because it's a really cute movie and I think you should watch it.

I will say when the movie was over I was MAD. I mean really mad.  It was like the Roku doesn't know me at all, but then the more I thought about it, really it was the only ending that made sense so now I've made my peace with it. : )  Anyway, after much thought, I am giving this movie a A-.  That's a pretty high score from a girl who is hard to please!  If anyone rents it, let me know if you liked it!

(Wondering what a Roku is?? It's a little box that allows you to stream Netflix.  Now we have a Blu-Ray player that does that in our front room, but long before we had that we had the Roku because a few years ago that was the only option.  We watch stuff in out bedroom mostly on the Roku and we've seen tons of movies and TV shows that we never would have seen otherwise.  It really makes our Netflix subscription worth while as we tend to keep Blu-Rays for months at a time before watching them. - sorry if anyone out there is waiting on a copy of Night at the Museum II.  We've only had that one three months, should either watch it or let it go back at this point.)

This is pretty much straight out of the camera! My focal plane is a tad off, but I like it anyway. I can't remember what this is, but Natalie's been growing it for a few years now and just this year we've had the most blooms ever.

More sunflowers. I better get them all photographed before they are all gone for winter. The other day Ditz said - don't you think you have enough sunflower pictures? My response? Nope, you can never have to many!

I heart faces: smirk

This weeks challenge is smirk: to smile in an affected, smug, or offensively familiar way.  I had two pictures in mind for this challenge and it took my a long time to choose between them. Funny enough they were both of my brother-in-law.  He smirks a lot and it's generally adorable.

Check out more smirks over at I heart faces!

09.18.10 POTD

The eyes have it! Ha-ha.  We were in  the backyard palying around with the macro lens and thought it would be a brilliant idea to photograph our eyes. (Actually it was Ditz's brilliant idea and he did a way better job than me). Anyway, first up my photo of the day which is a super clos-up of Ditz's eye.
Can you tell me all the things you see in his eye?  I can practically make out our entire back yard.

Now for two pictures he took of me. Now you are probably wondering why I am putting two pictures of my own eyes and only one of his eyes. Well, truth be told both his eyes look the same and mine do not.  First his best picture of my right eye. Please ignore the puffy eye as I am having allergy issues at the moment. Oh, and also ignore the mascara...

My eyes aren't bright blue, but more of a grey-blue most days. Creepy, huh?

And then there is my left eye which would not stop watering and that is why this picture isn't as clear.  When people ask me what color my eyes are, I always say they are 7/8 blue and 1/8 hazel.

See a quarter of my left eye is more of a hazel or golden brown. Pretty neat.

No Friday photo walk this week as I was in Honey Grove, Texas doing a bridal shoot! Obviously, I would love to make one of those photos my POTD, but they are super secret until the wedding. So here's a building across the street. I reallllllly wanted to go get more shots of this guy, but I turned around after snapping this and everyone was in their cars ready to head to the church. So maybe I'll get a chance to photograph this some more in December before the wedding!

Light Painting

Last week I teased about showing some of the "light painting" pictures that we took.  I still haven't gotten around to writing a real post and including all more of the awesome shots, but I wanted to give you a taste of what it's all about.  In this picture Ditz is the one doing the painting. As a matter of fact he did most of them since I actually really suck at drawing.
It's a tornado. The blue stuff is what it's throwing out of it's path.  Pretty cool.  We took one where he's getting eaten by a dinosaur too. That one is really cool.  Can't wait to share the rest of them!

I love the things that Taco Bell writes on their hot sauce packets. Today I got three; Will you marry me, This space for rent. Inquire within and At night the sporks pick on me. Since I am doing bridals tomorrow, I chose to photograph the will you marry me one. I want to say yes, but I think it's illegal since I am already married.

We'll call this the day of the not exactly perfect capture. See I was taking picture of more rings at the local park (I seriously love the pics, I may just ask everyone that I meet if I can photograph their rings.) Any way, I turned around and there were my bags on the stairs where I left them and they just looked so pretty, I snapped a pciture and turned back around to finish shooting some close-ups. I should have dialed in the settings for a wide shot, but I didn't. I think i like it anyway.

09.14.10 POTD

My engagement ring and Ditz's ring that he never ever wears.  Just playing around getting ready for a bridal shoot on Friday where they want ring pictures taken.  This shot was taken on a mirror in my back yard and the blue is the sky.

I also to a few of one of my friends rings.  For hers, I should get some sort of award.  It's full manual, plus manual focus.  And such hard shots to get!

09.13.10 POTD

Yeah, I know it's not exactly in focus, but I like it anyway! The wind was blowing something awful and I am at least glad that there is a hair or two in focus. And that bokeh? That's the bureau of printing and engraving in Fort Worth. The tall light focuses down on the land and the little lights line the double fence

I heart faces: Week 37 Vroom, Vroom Challenge

This week over at i heart faces the challenge is a face and all things that go vroom, vroom!Well, my picture doesn't actually go vroom, vroom... I'm pretty sure it's more of a lug, lug since it is a huge tractor!  Some day I hope to have a willing sunject who I can torture with these contests, but for now I still have to resort to the old archives! This one was on Thanksgiving of last year.

Grandpa Joe and his grandson! How cute!!  Want to see more things that go vroom, vroom? Head over to i heart faces!

Our latest "project." We made a box to store our remotes in since we seem to have nine hundred of them. It should end up the same color as the shelf we made last year for the living room. I say should because we are not the most consistant stainers. : )

09.11.10 POTD

Yesterday was supposed to be a lazy day getting ready for a busy next few weekends. Instead, like we almost always do when we set out to do nothing, we were out and about most of the day.  First we drove all the way to Arlington (about 45 minutes) to go to Arlington Camera so that I could try out the black rapid camera strap.  It's designed for boobs, seriously. It has a contour which is pretty stinking cool.  After driving all the way over there, we HAD to buy it.  It's actually quite cool once I get used to it, I think I'll love it.  Anyway, not wanting to go home for whatever reason we went looking for something different to do and ended up at the Vintage Aircraft Museum in Forth Worth. Only we were too late and they were about to close for the day so we couldn't go in.  At that point we opted to go see an IMAX movie at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.  We were early for that, of course, so we headed to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden where they were having an art show.  I am just not sure that Ditz and I are the appropriate people to judge art, but they gave everyone a card to vote for best in show.  We wandered around for about twenty minutes looking at the pieces. In the end, Ditz and I ended up voting for the same guy, but different works.  I'm sure we'll never know who actually won.  There were a few photographs in the art show and I think since I know some many wonderful photographers, I was very unimpressed.  (Seriously, the group I hang out with on Flickr is so talented, it's scary.)  I might try to figure out how to get a couple of my pictures in there next year. : )  Anyway, we wondered around just the front of the botanic garden since we didn't have much time before the movie started.  These shots were all taken at the entrance.  I had never seen these little peppers anywhere else in the garden and probably never would have since I rarely go int through the front gate.
Purple peppers? Very cool.

Here are some of the other pictures taken at the gate (two of them are Ditz's).   We made it to the movie on time and hoped that it wouldn't be like the IMAX movie we saw in Galveston which was nothing but beating about global warming.  Three quarters of the movie we saw (Under the Sea) was fine.  It was that last quarter of the movie that made me want to scream.  I just hate when you can't just simply enjoy the beauty of the sea. Anyway, after we got home we were playing with light painting.  But, I am going to save that for another post. Trust me when i say it's really cool!

09.10.10 POTD

Friday Photo Walk. Twin trash cans at the local park. Unfortunately no one seems to know what you are supposed to do with trash cans as this park was a littered as last weeks park. I think I'm going to go back to the parks in the "richer" area of town. I hate worrying that I am going to catch something.

How cute is this little chocolate candy sunflower? (ignore the empty chocolate wrapers, someone must have snuck in and eaten them). Funny thing is I bought this particular chocolate to take it's picture so it lasted at our house for almost a week by itself since I never got around to taking the picture. Maybe I should tell Ditz all the candy is for photography purposes and then I can have it all to myself. : )

09.08.10 POTD

09.08.10 POTD, originally uploaded by Sarah (SarahDanyelle).

Thanks to Tropical Storm Hermine we had some pretty wild weather on Wednesday in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. We had a couple of tornados, flooding, and rain like you've never seen. Typically with any bad weather we get the worst of anyone I know, but this time, this was the worst that Hermine did at our house (and lots of rain). Typically in a normal storm we lose part of the fence, but it looks like she's holding strong! (One tornado hit within a quarter of a mile from our warehouse, luckily everyone had already gone home and weren't forced to ride it our wondering if it was going to hit!)

09.07.10 POTD

09.07.10 POTD, originally uploaded by Sarah (SarahDanyelle).

When I was over at the in-laws on Sunday, my father-in-law gave me this gem to add to my collection of old cameras. It's an Olympus from 1979 and it's pretty cool. There was actually still a roll of film in it which we carefully rewound in hopes that maybe he'll get it printed. It also came with a super zoom lens as well, but the regular one made for a better photo. So now I think I am goingt o have to print all my camera shots and display them together!

Ever come across something close to your house that you never knew was there? That's what happened on Monday for Ditz and I. We were going somewhere that I thought I knew how to get there, but checked with the google anyway. It showed a different way and that's how we ended up on a road....with a hill! (that's big news in my part of Texas). But on top of that hill was this old abandoned something (house, outdoor patio area??) that they turned into a city park. You just never know when you need you camera! Even on a simple Target run!

We spent the day at the in-laws on Sunday. They have this little red truck that I am always trying to get an awesome picture of, but it never seems to happen. There is always too much going on in the background or the lighting is not right. Today I ended up with this one, the little label. Adventurer, yeah that's me. : )

09.04.10 POTD & Dallas Arboretum

It's finally starting to get cool here (which it really isn't cool, but we'll call a high of only 89 cool for the sake of this post).   So being that it was cool out, we opted to head over to the Dallas Arboretum and spend a few hours snapping some pics and hanging out.  First let me start by saying it was our first ever trip and at the end Ditz and I both left with a feeling that it was more of a tourist place. Unlike the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, you have to pay to get in. So our two hours worth of joy cost us a grand total of $27.  I am really not sure that we got $27 worth of excitement out of it. (It would however be a wonderful place to do photo shoots).

My photo of the day has several things that I love in it; orange and sun flare.  How could it not be my photo of the day?  Ironically, if I wasn't thirsty we would have never seen this flower. It was kind of hidden by the bathroom / vending machines.
They had tons of these flowers.  I wanted a different picture of them, but the opportunity never presented itself.
This fence was meant to keep people out?  Not really, but if they were trying to use this as an actual fence it was an epic fail.
While we were there I think there might have been five or six weddings about to start or just finishing.  This was one of the places that was set up for the wedding, but the guests had not arrived yet.  How pretty is this place?

For some reason they had a frontier type village set up.  It was kind of neat, but I really couldn't figure out how that fit in with the whole Arboretum experience.

Inside one of the little frontier buildings.  No smoking. : )

I hate aiming my camera at little kids because I always think that some one is going to think I am a perv or something, but I just couldn't resist this one. I actually did kind of hide so that no one would see me and I know that it would've been better if I wouldn't have hid to take the picture, but we're calling this baby steps. I took a picture of some one else's kid and nothing bad happened to me.  (She was sitting on a rock eating a peanut butter sandwich dipping her feet in the water).

And now for a few from Mr. Man.  It's always funny how we see things differently.

He has long arms and was able to snap this picture of the water lily in the middle of a small pond.  His composition is just amazing when you consider the fact that he could only guesstimate what he was aiming at.

This is the same plant as my photo of the day, just from his point of view.

Friday Photo Walk. This park would've been really cool if it weren't so trashy. I could really only take close-up and stand just so, that way I could minimize the trash view.

My desk on Thursday. Our computers were down (again, ugh) so I was uploading stuff to Flickr and leaving some love around the web. See those papers? I never have paper on my desk when my computer is working; it drives me bonkers. By the time they came back up that stack of work to do had quadrupled (plus what was in my e-mail). I am happy that they seem to be up and working now!

Everyday on my way to work I pass this Marble Slab Creamery. I love the pink glow from the signs and today I stopped and snapped a picture. (yes, I get to work when it's realllly dark outside). Probably should have used the tripod, but I think this worked pretty well hand held.

Can I just throw my car away? Second time in two weeks that I am sitting waiting on something to be fixed on my car. Last week it was the A/C (you don't want to know how much that cost) and this week it as the battery. I think we should move to a city with good public transportation. ; )

It was a long day on Monday. Computers crashed and then came back up at 300 so we all tried to fit 8 hours into 2. So a group of us girls went over to La Duni for dinner before attending a work function. That drink right there is by far the best coctail that I have ever had.

For my mom who asked the other day if her grand fur-baby was alive. Ditz is in the other room calling his name or rattling around some food, I can't really remember which. He's trying to teach Chase to avoid the camera like he does.

Went out on Saturday night to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday. Isn't this a great snapshot of them?
